To access Phantom 4’s camera settings, click on advanced camera settings in the DJI Go 4 app.

You will see three main icons, namely Aperture, Camera, and Gear icon. You can see details of each setting below for the best aerial and film photos.

A. Aperture Icon

There are several settings you can see when entering the Aperture icon options. Here’s an explanation of each:

1. Auto Mode

When selecting automatic mode, the Phantom 4’s camera settings are sensor-based. Accordingly, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed settings are automatically adjusted according to the landscape and lighting conditions around the camera object.

2. Aperture Priority

By selecting this mode, the shutter speed and ISO can be adjusted automatically. However, the setting of an aperture can be changed manually during flight.

Aperture can be interpreted as the opening of the light hole in the lens: the more significant the space, the lighter enters, and vice versa.

Aperture is measured in f-stops, such as f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, and f/11.

3. Shutter Speed ​​Priority

The Phantom 4’s shutter speed setting is the opposite of the aperture setting above.

When a shutter speed is selected, the aperture and ISO are set automatically. In contrast, the shutter speed setting can be changed while flying.

4. Manuals

The Phantom 4’s manual camera setup allows pilots to control ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed ​​while flying. This mode is quite a complicated setup mode for beginners.

For a good understanding of manual settings, it is better to use a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

B. Camera Icon

Click into advanced camera settings and select the middle tab for the camera.

1. Video Size

Of course, the best option for shooting video on the fly is in 4K video resolution. There are two choices of 4K video resolution, namely 4096 x 2160 and 3840 x 2160.

Pilots also have the option of recording at 24, 30, 48, or 60 frames per second in 4K resolution.

2. Video Formats

This option is a choice of file type and video format. The possibilities are as follows;

  • MP4. Select the .MP4 format if later the video is processed on a Windows computer.
  • MOV. Select the .MOV video format if the video is later processed on an Apple computer.


The Phantom 4 NTSC/PAL camera format settings need to be considered and adjusted to the country of domicile.

NTSC stands for National Television Standards Committee. NTSC is usually the standard broadcast format in the United States. This video format uses color transmission produced at 60 hertz.

PAL stands for Phase Alternating Line. PAL is usually the standard broadcast format in Europe, Australia, and some Asian countries. This video format uses color transmission at 50 hertz.

A common problem with this format is that the pilot records in the NTSC settings. Then play the recording in the PAL format video player. Or vice versa.

4. White Balance

Having the correct white balance will have a dramatic effect on the captured image. The Phantom 4 provides six white balance options.

The safest option is to choose an automatic mode, which is already excellent. However, the pilot can adjust it to the weather when flying. So choose Sunny or Cloudy mode.

5. Stylish Camera

There are three types of settings in Phantom 4, namely Standard, Landscape, and Soft. However, there are also Custom settings.

Each has a different level of sharpness, contrast, and saturation. The values ​​are in the range of -3 to +3 for each setting.

In general, the option that is often used is the Standard option. After that, the contrast, saturation, or sharpness adjustments are made in the computer editing process.

6. Color Profile

The color profile can be said to be a kind of digital filter. Color profile settings will provide various color range options for the captured image.

However, to be on the safe side, it’s better to record images without a color profile. Because later, namely in the editing process, the color range can be adjusted in such away.

7. Camera Video Coding

There are two options for encoding camera video on the Phantom 4 drone, namely H264 and H265.

Two choices of video compression standards are commonly used in work activities. Generally, H264 is more widely used than H265. However, H265 is considered to have better compression quality than H264.
